red light comes on after 30 minutes of riding
#1
After riding for thirty minutes or so, my red light starts flashing at low rpms. I have replaced my pressure sensor once before. I replaced it with a Chevy sensor, and I was wonder if anyone elso was having any problemes with a Chevy sensor. I heard that there was a BMW sensor that fits the DS650, and if I don't solve the problem I'll try that. Does anyone know the part number for the BMW sensor?

It is your fan system not kicking on. Same happend to me! Also beware of the back pressure blowing your carb out of its manifold. I checked every circut on my ds650 2001 and every checked good. You'll need 160.00 for a new fan and pull the exhaust off to get the fan out. I am out of warranty now so I will try to repair it first, I'll let you know how I make out tommorrow when I try to fix the fan.

My fan is still coming on when it gets hot so I dont think it is the fan.

I had to fix my fan once; here’s how I did it.
By removing the gas
tank, and pulling the fan out. After you have the fan motor out, you will see that it is
sealed. Next you take a flathead screwdriver and a knife and cut slowly, (without bending
the metal plate)until the plate is off. Carefully remove the plate. There are four magnets
that are very fragile. (In my case they all jumped on the metal plate and nearly broke, (BE
CAREFUL.) If you have to remove the magnets, be sure not to sit them near each other
(or they will snap together and break). There are four brushes. One of the brushes will
most likely be your problem. (In my case, the wire came un-welded from the brush, and
I soldered it back.) But if you need new brushes, I heard that you can get them from any
person that works on washers and dryers, or electric motors.
Now for the hard part putting it back together. The four brushes you will have to hold
back to put the plate back on. The four brushes are on springs. Wrap dental floss around
each brush, and pull them all at once. Then put the plate on. (The plate will try to jump
because of the magnets, and you may have trouble keeping the magnets in place, (sorry I
cannot remember exactly how I did it), so have a good grip. You should then put some
sort of sealant around the metal plate, to protect it from water.
Or you can go to www.offwarehouse.com and get one for around $70.00 there.
Good luck,

Off road warehouse sells them and with tax and shipping I believe it was $90.
You can take the fan out without removing the gas tank.
If you have a scredriver that is bent at 90 degrees unscrew the heat shield and it can be gently pulled out, however make damn sure you dont bend any fins on the radiator.
