cam problems

DSmike,
Maybe you need stronger springs? Steel cams?
I have missed gears too ......but it has never caused any problems except.....I spun a timing gear, broke a cam, broke a titanium retainer which dropped the valve into the cylinder...and blew a tranny
All 4 items happened at different times non related to each other.

What is your piston to valve clearance with those cams? How are you measuring? If your using a dial indicator it probably isn't the most accurate way. I'd try using clay. That way you can measure around the eyebrow of the valve cut in the piston. Usually it is recommended to have .100" of clearance on the intake valve and .080" on the exhaust side. If you have that and your spring pressures are still in spec, then your spinning it too high. You will need a CDI with a rev limiter to keep you from going over 9000, 9500 rpm.
