Try the needle in the 3rd position from the top. That will richen the mid range.

What elevation?

There is a BIG difference between K&N in the box vs. K&N Direct Mount - Which one do you have?

Is your air box lid removed? (If in the box mount, if not. . . pull it off and throw it away!

You may want to try a 175 main with needle on 3rd clip.

Are you sure you aren't hitting the rev. limiter on high RPM's?

The vent tube should not cause an issue. EXCEPT - keep it protected, it is a vent for the top of the carb, if it has been exposed to a lot of sand, you could have sand in the upper part of your carb (the rubber part that holds the needle.) If you go to a direct mount filter get a small K&N filter for mounting on that tube.

Use the dynojet stage 3 instructions instead of stage 1 for main jet sizes. It will work alot better.Take the airbox lid off. Try 185/190 main, open air/fuel screw to 3 turns out, needle clip on 3rd notch .Try placing all 3 small washers under the e-clip, which should give you a little more midrange.Make sure you have no leaks/cracks in the intake boot of your carb, and your air filter is sealed tight.

Based on your original description, you are too fat on the transition circuit (needle+main). I don't want to start a big debate, but a UNI filter does not flow as well as a K&N. With that in mind, drop to a 175 main, put the clip washers back where thay originally were, put the clip in the second notch from the top. Idle screw 2.5 turns out, and leave the air box lid off. If you don't ride through water, remove the snorkels and grommets from the box, place a small breather filter on the crankcase vent hose. Motorcyle shops sell the filters for about 10 bucks.

This should get you pretty close. Just remember that when you move the clip or washers down on the needle you are richening the transition circuit, moving up leans it. The main jet also affects it but I believe a 180 is too large for your set-up.
