Default Clutch is stiff

Hey the clutch on my ds650 is a little stiff, is there an easy way to loosen it up a bit? Maybe it's just because it's new... It is also a little farther out than I'd like; I have to move my whole hand to pull it in... any way to decrease the distance from the grip to the lever?
thanks for any input

Check the cable first:
1- Lossen to max cable at handlebar
2- Remove cable by motorcase
3- Remove cable at handlebar
4- By hand move cable up and down - a properly functioning cable can be pushed down by
light finger pressure.
If excessive drag - run a light penetrating oil into cable to clean it out - no drag
- re-oil with a light oil or synthetic oil that creeps
If cable is OK:
1- On clutch input shaft use a sharpie pen and mark its oreintation.(Mark on shaft and housing)
2- Remove clutch cover housing
3- Inspect splines on end of input shaft - if excessively worn or bent
- rotate shaft 180 degrees(good splines) and reassemble

- if shaft is good - inspect clutch basket for excessive
wear or bent

thanks Oldmanracing - I think I should have been more clear that this is a brand new bike (bout 8 hours on it). My bud bought a ds at the same time and his clutch is easier to pull in. It has a lot more play in the clutch lever, which makes it closer to the handlebar which makes it easier to pull in I think. Maybe it does need lubrication, I'll check it out
