Default Direct mount K&N

I have ran the RWR stage one for a year or so but just changed to a direct carb mount K&N. The thing runs great but after one weekend at dumont the seat rubbed the filter enough that the outerwear wore through. It also kept trying to push the carb down and off the intake manifold. Has anyone else had this problem? If so how did you fix it?

Default Direct mount K&N

I have been battling this issue for as long as I have had a direct mount. My next try is to put a small piece of foam between the outerware and the K&N. I am thinking this will keep the Outerware to metal (K&N filter part) contact to a minimum. The metal of the filter is what is wearing the K&N down. I just need some foam now. I am thinking the foam would not cause an air restriction since it is the same stuff used for Uni Filters.

The Uni Filters are another option because they give and don't have the metal the K&N does. But, the Uni has such a thick mounting shoulder that the TM45 runs into it as the slide is opened.

Thanks for the info. I've e-mailed ron wood but they wont reply. That really makes me happy after buying two stage I kits from them and spending that much money. I think I'll try cutting the black plastic on the underside of the seat. I'm not worried so much about wearing through the outerwear but the fact that it tries to push the carb off the intake manifold is really bothering me. I don't want to chance sucking sand into the motor. Hopefully cutting the seat will give it enough room to prevent that. I have the TM45 carb but have never had the throttle stick, hopefuly it wont. I definately don't want a uni, I have had such good luck with the K&N I don't want to switch.

I bought some little 1 inch adhesive "stickies", cut out a piece of plastic milk carton big enough to protect where it was rubbing the seat, mounted the "stickies" to my outerwear, then pressed the piece of plastic to the stickies, and presto, no more rubbing thru! As far as the bottom of the filter goes, I ground my frame down and repeated what I did on top of the filter.
