Jetmoto 150 making strange noise
#61
My local Polaris dealer sells a little universal clear filter (with copper inners) that worked great for the 250 (the 150 set up is the same). I replaced the fuel line also, the stock Jetmoto fuel valve has a bigger fuel line size (on the inlet side) that I had to heat the hose up to get it on that end which was not a big problem.
Wings try some starting fluid just to see if the motor takes off and runs! I just have a hard time buying this Jet thing all of a sudden just stops working cus of air temp or what ever. If it ran fine before and now what two weeks later will not run it's something that had changed perhaps like a plugged jet. This is why starting fluid would let you know if it's a fuel problem or there is something else gone wrong!
Just for information, I am at around 5000 ft and our 150's run great but do require the choke for about 30 sec when starting cold. The 250 with stock jets were real cold blooded but after swapping the Jets solved this problem but they did run fine after they warmed up in about 5 min.

Just looked at my quads, the 250 has a larger carb then the 150! The 06 may have been the same but the 07's are different!</end quote></div>
Your correct outofline.
I should have said the share a similar carb design. Would help if I slowed down my replies a little to.
The 125 and 110 have a carb I cant find jets for.

I just got into the top of the carbs yesterday as I did not like the way the throttle cable was routed inside the frame. MWQ rerouted his and it seemed like a good mod to lessen the bend in the cable.
I unscrewed the top of the carb and pulled it out. What comes out in one piece is the cap, cable, spring, jet, clip, and slider. Make sure you pull evenly as the jet is fairly long and you don't want to bend or twist it.
Once free you need to compress and hold the spring pressure while removing the cable end from the slider. This releases the spring tension. Be careful to watch the jet and clip as they may slide/flip off. With the cable removed and the spring tension gone, the clip and jet slide off.
I lost track of the exact position of the C-clip, really looks more like a W, but I put it back so the cable runs in the open area of the open end of the clip. Most important is to note the slider has a slot that should be aligned with the idle jet. Just make sure the slider slot faces outward when inserting and slides around the jet just before being fully inserted. It will seat below the top of the carb. If this is not happening slide it up and turn it a bit to make sure you get it to easily slide down below the top of the carb opening. Couple turns of the top and you should be good to go.

I agree!!!!!! The carb is not the problem. I just got some time to get out and really take a close look at what's going on with this quad. And the stuttering is not the engine!! I started thinking it was the carb since everyone else was thinking that was it, but its in the tranny!! I noticed when you get movin' on it the lever in forward would skip. I held it in place and went around the yard and it didn't stutter. Once I let go it started doing it again. It's something in the gears. Anyone have any experience with this?? Another thing I noticed is when you give it gas it doesn't move right away. It takes a bit (a second or so) to get rollin'. Is this normal?
I'd really like some info on how to work on this.
Thanks
(by the way, I changed the clip on the needle and the engine does run a lot better) I'll see how it starts up after it's sat for some hours.

I have heard of someone here that did have a tranny problem, and yes it dose take a second to kick in the clutch set up when you give it the gas. If you watch my video's it will give you an idea of how they operate. I don't recall what the problem was with that guys 150, might have been a belt problem. There is a belt under the left side cover on the Motor/trans. The motor should run and sound perfect if you put the shifter in Neutral (in-between Forward and Reverse!

The engine does sound great in neutral. It's a tranny problem. The kids may have slammed it into gear before coming to a complete stop. I don't know if something's misaligned or broke. I put it up on jack stands and took the side cover off; gave it some gas in forward. It spins fine but it's also not hitting bumps to jar anything around. Like I said, if you hold the lever still while you're riding, it doesn't do it. If you let go it will start to slip. I'm not sure what's behind the belt and pulleys. Does anyone know if I take the belt and pulleys off, that the gearing and what not will be easy to get to?
Thanks for your help outofline.

Ya know I would start with playing with the shift linkage, Try removing the sliding parts and make sure it's in forward then ride it. It may be it's not shifting into forward completely? Does revers work fine?
#68
Yep, I put it in reverse and drove around and it doesn't do it in reverse.
(ya know it's hard to drive fast in reverse!!)

This IS quite frustrating. Let's review for a sec. New Jetmoto - everything works great first couple times out then the rear end clunking sound which is a known factory defect caused by a defective support sleeve. No other reported issues.
Then the carb is bad, now the tranny. This just does not happen by itself, assuming the quad sat parked and unmolested (ie kids not using it as a toy and jamming the levers and cranking the trottle a thousand times.) Not placing blame here, as I am just going off my personal experience with my 12 year old. Good thing the quads are in the garage underneath our bedroom. Quite odd how I hear the growl of a quad coming from the garage at odd times. Must be possessed. :-)
I'm glad to hear the engine is fine. Now, I don't buy it's the transmission either. It seems like the shifter linkage is not properly adjusted and not allowing the transmission to either fully engage in the proper gear. As there is no service manual, I can not offer the specifics on proper adjustment.
I can say that my 150 does not shift like butter. It needs to be jiggled sometimes to go from revers or drive to neutral. Sometimes it disengages fine from drive to neutral then gets hung up going into reverse. When put back into drive and moving at all, then stop and moving gear into neutral and then reverse works fine. Sometimes a quick tap of the throttle, then repeating the gear change works fine. I suspect either the linkage needs adjustment or that this is just how the transmission works. I do not feel it is any kind of defect or problem in the transmission.
wings - Maybe you can get a neighbor, friend, or quad rider who gets greasy and have them take a look. It is really hard to get a sense of what is happening without experiencing it real time. The kinds, types, and sources of sounds and vibrations and the visual inspection and manual rocking and shaking is really helpful, maybe essential to quickly, efficiently, and properly diagnose what is going on.
On a different note - this thread is great as it offers a way to help other quad owners who do not benefit from a local dealer network. For some, this kind of new purchase experience would be considered intolerable and result in the "Chinese POS" mantra. Having strong local dealer support is invaluable for some and certainly makes all these problems become the sole responsibility of the dealer. There is no doubt some part of added cost of the brand names is built in just for this kind of thing.
Good luck.

This describes the functioning's of my two 150's to a tee! It's not that there is a problem it's just the way they work, also if the idle is set too high will also effect the shifting of the lever!
