150 jetmoto leaks gas when shut off
#1
Hi all, thanks for all of the info posted.
Back in may 07 I purchased 2 150 jetmotos. 1 has been running like a champ since it was bought. Starts right up every time. The other is the black sheep of the family. Mostly it has been minor problems until now. It has alway be hard to start. Would have to crank it wait crank it again and most of the time it would start after 3 or 4 tries. After a few months I noticed gass would leak out the over flow tube, this is the tube on the bottom of the carb. Last yesterday I went out to start the quads because it has been about a month since the last ride. Quad 1 started right up. Quad 2 would not start and ended draing the battery. I got the charger out, connected it up. I had forgot to shut off the gas and when I came back an hour later it there was a large gas spill.
From what I have researched on the net it souds as if the jets or the float is bad. Is this something that a person of limited mechanical skills can fix or will I quickly get in over my head.
Thanks for any advice.
Doug

Nope no parts need to be replaced! Your float needs to be adjusted. I had the same problem with one of my 150's. Your float on that quad is running a little high, you need to remove or simply undo the two front carb mounting bolts then twist the carb to where you can remove the 3 screws to the bowl. Bend the tab on the Float to needle so the float will not go as high, don't go to far or it will not let any gas in. Also several of us had found that adjusting the Needle clip down a notch or two made them run better!

Thanks for the reply outofline. I finally got a chance to work on the quads. I tried to start up the quad before working on it and I had gas coming out of air intake, overflow tube and other places. It was like someone took a cup of gas and just poured it on the quad. I think the problem was from dirt and a clogged carb. We ride in the south west in extremly dusty conditions and I have been neglectful in keeping the air filter clean.
I took both the air filter housing and carburetor off of the quad to give both a good cleaning. There was dirt on the inside of the round tube going to the air intake so I know some of the dust made it into carb and the gas in the bowl had a lot foreign matter in it. I cleaned the carb and filter housing, put it back together and it fired right up.
Is there a good aftermaket air filter for such a dry and dusty climate.
When I cleaned the spark plug, the firing end of the plug on both quads was black. They both cleaned up with a small brush and sand paper. A quick search of the Internet indiacates this could be a rich mixture. Could this be caused by dirty air filter.
Thanks

Yes it could and would! Did you oil soak the filter? No it's not the best filter set up and I'm sure there is something much better out there just a matter of finding one to fit! Check the pipe seal at the front of the air filter housing; I had to re-silicone mine. Oh ya replace the stock fuel filter and if you didn't already adjust the needles in the top of the carb!

I recently replaced the stock air filter on my '07 Jetmoto 150 with a UNI Pod Filter.

I use a UP4182 on my 200/250 and had a U402 laying around and got it to work on the 150. I am going to get a UP4152 for my 150 next time I go to CycleGear. The 150's PZ27 carb flange is 1.50 dia. The 200 and 250's PZ30 carb flange has a 1.70 dia.
