so once again I say it was the holeshot. meaning shifting faster and at the right time. yes they were too heavy to race for winning. they were never built for that. but yes they shift faster

oh so you know rick ritter. give him a call and ask about the 325 big bore that takes a 400ex and might give you a run on yours. Oh here I have his number 1(618)644-3211. tell him loren sprenkle says hello. and no lt80 did'nt win he was on a 250 verse alot bigger cc bikes. and again I WAS NOT SAYING WINNING I WAS SPEAKING ABOUT FASTER SHIFTING.</end quote></div>
Talked to Rick several times. Lately about the wife Trail Blazer.
I can take a 400ex as mine sits now. I considered the big bore kit, but decided to get the kfx instead. I'll stand by my choice. But, if I were to do that to the Boss, I'd expect it to beat the 400. Now if I put a big bore kit on the KFX, and did a stage one upgrade, I'd still be beating it.
Faster shifting does not mean faster speed.
If it's so great, how come the Predator and the Outlaw don't use it?

ok all I was trying to say is IT SHIFTS FASTER. thats all. not its faster than another. meaning top speed. it is impossable for a person to shift faster than a cvt. thats all. all you guys out there that think top speed is part of the race. no its shifting at the optimum time. you ever miss a shift. probaly not. thats all I ever said yes I won verses a banshee, rapterand a ds650(first year it was out). why dont they race them. they were made for one purpose family entertainment, easy use, not having to worry about shifting. and in that they were to f*****g heavy. as for the predator it was made to race. meaning the weight had to be low. so the weight of the cvt was not feesible. so once again. FASTER SHIFTING thats it holeshot.

Well, I think shifting is a misnomer on the CVT. Take my Boss for example, 1 forward gear, 1 reverse. Since the shifting of the cvt is really a constant movement on the sheaves, I wouldn't really call it shifting. It's design isn't to be faster, but to be smoother.
And if anyone ever tells you they haven't missed a gear before, they're lying.

Hope ya'll don't mind me chiming in.
I argued with my cousin 35 years ago about a auto tranny vs a manual. I was wrong and the auto does shift faster. But that's with car trannys. No human reflex factor involved.
I've never considered a CVT something that shifts. Yes they increase ratios.
This is a chicken and the egg thing IMO.
Scooter, dude, I gotta whack ya in the knee caps in this one::"I read his review. He also praised the suspension. And I don't recall him winning. Nobody just races to finish. If that's their goal, they aren't racing."
Winning = racing? So your boy doesn't hit a home run, was he playing ball?
(1000 words erased)
We wasn't in last place in either year on the Kymco. I've raced a number of years in the 40+ class. I've not once went out to win. Rather to have fun and to finish the race as best as I could.
I'll consider all that racing.

SIMPLE,, POLARIS is a bunch of azzholes. They make new models cuz they are still trying to make a good one.

I been to many Texas Ranger games, and seen them hit a few home runs, and trust me, they ain't winning .
I do remember you guys were more interested in seeing if it would even finish the race, let alone two.
If I were to go into a race, and my frame of mind be that I hope I finish, and not that I finish first, I wouldn't call it racing. Now, during the race, I may change that tune. But going in and not hoping to win just makes you traffic for the ones the do.

isent all shifting a changing of ratios. some gears and some on sheaves! take off in low range and end up in high range. weather you hit gears or let the cvt work and you just hangon
scooter. you dont have just 1 forward gear. in the sheaves you have many, many ratios(gears) if you had only 1 gear it would be just like leaving your 5 speed in 1 gear and thats it. no change in ratio. yes that would suck. most autos are coming out with a cvt tranny, all sleds cvt and it the new auto in the ads it says ( wow!! it shifts so smooth I cant feel it changing gears)
now on he sportsman it has low and high range. it still shifts from low to high ratio.by the gear reducer in the trans.

Ok, I'll un-erase the Kymco part.
The 1st year, nobody expected the Mongoose to make 12 hours. It was our goal to finish. We did.
2nd year we went out to break it and couldn't. We went as hard and as fast as we could.
We were not last in either year and it was good racing. Ask the guys we beat. They will say they were racing.
Oh yea, I raced the Kymco at Red Bud (atva) and Daniel Boone on the 1st WPSA race. Wasn't last at either of those either.

I understand that YOU think this way but,,,
With all due respect, and I understand that everyone has their own mental "have to" in their minds, but isn't that unrealistic?
I had that thought years ago. I got hurt bad. Alex Trompkin left the nats in the minis and a year later he shows up and runs pro. He tried till he got hurt bad.
Him and I were unrealistic.
Now that I have the "see checkered and I'm a winner" attitude. I'm safer and faster.
FYI: I'm fat, slow, and love to race (and I try hard to stay out of the way).
I sure like passing those big bad 450's that are broke, stuck, and the riders are plum wore out. I tell em:: Tortoise and the hare fellas.
Nothing personnal Scooter.
Ok, I'm out on this one. To say more would look to be argumentative and I'm not trying to be. Nobody needs that.
As far as the topic, I think everyone has valid points and I don't agree with any of them!! j/k .
I'd like to race a WORCS race next. They have a +50 class that I qualify for in 2 weeks. LMAO

Actually I think we all are doing a good job of stating our opinions. I don't think anyone posted any personal attacks, and I always enjoy a good humorous jab, even if I'm the victim.
I guess I should concede that there are a great number of people the will enter a race to say they raced, and finished. I wouldn't say that of the pro's though. Factory backing means winning or making way for the next rider.
I know we get pretty competitive just out on the weekend rides. You should see what happens when someone says, "Last one back, cooks."

Were you on that 400 Polaris? Still no contest engine to engine.
Ever notice it took a 100% larger four stroke to compete with a 2 stroke. (Supercross/Motocross) Not just any 4 stroke either. A 4 stroke with Indy car technology and a few million dollars of development.
LT80 your right CVT's dont shift at all, they have variable ratios.
