? Suggestions for Upgraded Inst. Panel ?
#1
While Improving (heavier Starter/Ground Cables) / Sealing / Waterproofing my electrical harness assembly on my JM250 Sport, I noticed that the cables coming out of the Transmission are really (6) wires (smaller connector of the two from the engine); However on the main harness - only (2) wires flow out of that connector up to the Handlebar / Dash Assembly. These (2) wires are the ground part of the circuit for the "Neutral" & "Reverse" Indicator Lamps. Since the harness coming out of the Engine has (4) "unused) wires - I can only assume that these "extra" wires, supplied by the engine manufacturer, are ground circuits for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th gear indicator lamps. To retro-fit an additional (4) wires to the harness would be an easy project, which would give an "all-gear" indicator.
Does anyone know of an "instrument panel" that has six light bulb assemblies, which mounts to the handle bars the same way that the panel mounts on the JM250 handle bars?

6 gear? o nvm sorry my stupid maby a kazoma light indicator? also njdale if u dont mind me asking where in nj r u from i also live in nj..(south jersey) and i hear u with the hating of quads etc

I'm not sure where these wires come from but there is a Clutch Safety switch that goes to the clutch lever that will not allow the Motor to be started when the quad is in gear. Make sure this is not the wires you are referring to!

Njdale,
thanks man just toned / mapped mine for my Roketa Atv-09 which is the same as the jet sport (according to pics and what not)
for anyone who wants em the wire from tranny on my 250cc watercooled are:
red/white = reverse
green/red = neutral
red = first
blue/red = second
green/black = third
yellow/red = fourth
these are all grounds as NJdale stated.
now off to radio shack to pick up some LEDs and some resistors. run a few wires, drill some holes and will be all good.

JMRacer - I live in Northern NJ, near Dover
MYQ - Thanks for the Fleebay suggestion, I'll look.
Outofline - The Reverse Interlock is the "Pink" wire which is in the "Large" engine connector and it goes to the clutch lever. When the clutch is squeezed, it connects the "Pink" to "Green" which is Ground and pulls back a spring loaded pin so that Reverse can be gotten into. All the shift indicator wires are in the "small" engine connector.

oneDone - Thanks for the color code chart. I'm sure the colors will be the same since the engine manufacturer is probably the same. Let me know how you make out with the LED's & resistors. You might want to check out your wire harness. The engine manufacturer got it right with 10 guage copper coming off the starter; however, the harness battery leads (both Pos & Neg) are only 16 guage copper with extra thick vinyl making up the difference. You only need about 2 feet each of 10 guage to change out the leads from the battery.

NJdale,
haven't done it yet, i have to pick up some diodes and see if I can make progresive lights (1st one light, 2nd two lights etc) I think I'll run them in an arch like a speedo or something. I'm not sure if the diodes will work on the ground. I'll have to do some tests. will post updates when I get to doing it.

oneOone - I think that I might have found a place that sells them; about $21; "Quality Deals and Surplus" on fleebay store. Looks almost perfect except it doesn't have a 4th gear light; but maybe I can take the current Neutral bulb assembly and drill a new hole in the Fleebay panel for 4th. I will have to order one and see. Let me know how you make out with the diode project. If I order one it probably will take a couple of weeks until I get it, figure out a mount, wire it, and test it. I will let you know.

just bench tested the progressive lights, and got it to work. wired all the hots in parell each with there own 330 ohm resistor. then connected the grounds (1 to 2. 2 to 3, 3 to 4) with some diodes I pulled off a old circut board, 812's I think.. then cycled the grounds. when you ground out 4th all 4 lights lite, 3rd 3 lites, 2nd 2 lights. 1st 1 light.
there is a total of 4 leds in this set up. will put pics in profile when installed.
