Default Starting question

On my kids 90cc jetmoto I think its an 06' model. While I'm pushing the start button and its turning over if I try to feather the throttle it will cause the starter to disengage with a loud snapping noise. It will start but I have to wait for it to begin to fire and let off the starter button and then give it gas. Has anyone ever had this issue with one of these chinese bikes or any bike for that matter?

Have you ever adjusted the valves? They require periodic adjustment. They tighten up with wear, and tighten even more when cold. So the first symptom is starting when cold.

I dragged my 90cc utility off the shelf and tried to start it while feathering the throttle... It would stop turning over or turn over much slower but the starter never kicked out.. As long as you can get it running I wouldnt sweat it..

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the valves since I have never adjusted them. The question is what kills me though, because although I can get it started I don't see or understand how feathering the throttle while turning it over would cause the starter to disengage since the throttle appears to be mechanical whereas the starter is on the electrical side of the house unless there is something I am not seeing.

The only thing I can think of is the starter is getting weak.So as you feather the throttle more fuel enters the cylinder and creates enough compression to kick out the starter...

Im guessing it didnt do this before? Or have you just started feathering the throttle on start up recently?
