Default Wiring nightmare

I got a buddy's chinese atv for a no start problem. Only marking I can find is its a YYATV110-2. Could cross the solenoid and get it to start but starter button wouldnt work. Bought a new start switch after testing amd not getting power back to the solenoid. No go. Found key switch making poor contact intermittently
bought new ..no go... started opening up the wiring harness and started putting butt connectors on all the poor in line splice connectors. When I went to try starting again it blew the CDI box up. so I bought what was supposed to be a similar(based on the pictures) wiring harness stator key switch and start switch and wiring is different. my question is what do I need to do to get this POS running again

Too late now, but I always recon if you are good enough at ATV/motorcycle electrics to fit a "universal" harness, you could have fixed the original one. The fault you started with may well have been the safety lock-out which stops the starter from working unless you are in neutral, or have the brake on, depending on model. Now you have the choice of either fixing the fault you put on that blows CDIs plus fixing the original fault, and using the original harness, or finding switches etc, that match the new harness, or altering the wiring on the existing switches to suit the new harness, risking putting even more faults into the set up.

I did check brake switch and neutral switch and had signal coming out of both. The original problem that I found was the start button terminals were not making contact. When I reworked the original harness I only cut one splice out at a time and then reconnected those wires to ensure no mix up. That aside this new harness looks to have less splices than the original so I was hoping to use that to help stop future problems at splices . So looking at the new stator there is an extra 2 wires not connected which I would assume are for the neutral switch. But which 2 wires coming from the gear indicator would I connect to?

Not absolutely certain, but most Hondas use each wire being earthed in turn on the gear indicator switch, so, the switch pole earthed in neutral should go to neutral light, but honestly, to know which wire goes where on that new wiring harness with different wiring colours and different plugs and sockets, do you really want to be working it all out?
