Default Eaton viper 70 problem

I think it's a 90s bike it's a 2 stroke viper 70 with an optional kick start when I try to start it Everytime it goes to fire it stop cranking makes a **** grinding starter noise acts like it runs backwards then doesn't start or it starts for a quick sec then makes the noise and it kills the motor this is aggravating to no end I appreciate any help

The one way starter clutch may be shot. Engines fire slightly before top dead centre and the starter clutch is under the most strain, due to compression, at just this point, so if the clutch slips right then, the crank stops as the engine fires, sending the crank backwards, while the clutch is still trying to send it forwards, hence all the grinding. There can be other causes. I once had a Suzuki 750 doing this and it turned out to be the bearing on the gear between starter and clutch, worn so bad it jammed, again due to compression, at the firing point.
