Quad turns over with kill switch
#1
Hello. I have a 90 cc loncin quad. Problem I'm having is that engine turns over with on/kill switch. This is whether I have ignition key on or not.
So, normally I would turn ignition key to on, then flick the kill/on switch to on, then press start button to start engine.
For some reason now, soon as I flick kill witch to on, engine starts turning over.
I did get whole new starter/kill switch harness. Plugged it in but now get nothing. At least it doesn't turn though with just on switch.
The new harness I got is 8 pin holes like the original. The only thing is that there are only 7 wires to it. It has one hole with nothing in it. Maybe not compatible. Any ideas what could be happening to original starter switch?

I can't understand why you would do anything with the kill switch, nobody ever touches it, as you switch engine on and off via the ignition switch. Anyway, it is possible the kill wire has shorted out onto the start button wire causing the original problem, or the start button may be stuck, as some need kill button to be on run for the start button to work.

Yes, this one I have to turn key to on, then put switch to run (probably meant run instead of on earlier post) then press start button. Usually, start button does not function unless switch is on run and ignition key on also. There is also the safety mechanism of pressing and holding brake while pressing start button . Usually the engine would not turn over if brake was not being applied. Now it turns over without brakes being applied.
I will check for stuck start button.
I do have a new 110 cc motor thinking about swapping. Only thing is that the wire plug coming from new motor's " stator " (I think it's what is called) don't match with existing plug. Is there a how to guide that I can rewire maybe? Looks like i would need to cut plug and rewire things around a bit. Thanks

Sorry, I misspoke earlier. The new motor's stator wiring is all loose. There is no plug. So I can't just plug into existing wiring plug. Not sure if it's possible to just swap the stator harness wiring from old engine to new one? Or what other options? Thanks

If there is nothing wrong with the existing motor leave it alone. As you are on here asking, I doubt if you are all that well up on motorcycle electrics, so wiring in a different stator would be another headache you don't need. If it now tries to start without the brake lock out, I would guess you have a shorted wire rather than a stuck start button. One approach that works, though it may take time, is to start checking the thin wires at the solenoid. Trace the wires back using their colours as a guide, one will go to the start button, keep checking back, it may go to the brake switch, it may be earthed, or it may go to the ignition switch, but somewhere there will be a bare wire shorted to earth, or another wire, on one of these thin wires from the solenoid.

Hello. I know it's been a while. But issue got fixed.
I just started wire brushing all connections, disconnected wires to kill switch, brushed, spareyed with electrical spray , and no more issues. So, moral of the story, dirt, rust, etc.. was causing issues.
