Just wondering if anyone is running these tires. I have a '01 Grizzly with 27" Blackwater X/T's and want something a little nastier without compromising ride. The Blackwaters work decent in the mud and they ride nice on hardpack too. I know the 589's will be better in the thick stuff but not sure how they will run on regular trails(harpack). Anybody???

You want "nastier" without sacrificing ride, click on my pictures below, look at the "snow pics", look closely at my Bi/Tri Claws. They are as "nasty" as they get, go anywhere, do anything with authority type tire, yet are extremely well mannered on hardpack. At speeds up to around 3 mph, yeah, it is a little "bumpy", but getting close to 5mph and up, you'll never know the difference. And, steering is remarkably easier with the taller, more aggressive tread-due to less rubber on the ground in one certain spot, thus causing less friction. Anyway, they're definately an awesome tire you might consider as well. Keep in mind though, they are actually taller than true stated heigth, at around 27 1/4" -27 1/2" at recommended psi. No other tire I know of to date does this.

The 589's have changed to the new 589 M/T, which is supposed to be a "true" 27" tire, though I've heard they're not measuring up in the width department, and I remember one guy who said they were just shy of 27". I believe they are a SLIGHTLY different design as the old 589's, which were an already great tire. I've ridden with a couple guys now with 589's, all seem to go pretty much everywhere I go, yet when we hit the deep mud, or snow, you can tell the difference. The guys I have ridden with have said that my 'Claws clearly have an easier time in the deep mud. And, I believe the 'Claws ride A HAIR smoother than the 589's, as they cross the center line very nicely, yet are not spaced apart as far as the 589 pattern- <<< for the 'Claws, compared to < < < for the 589's. Does that make any sense? The 'Claws definately have a deep, and wide tread pattern, clean out very well, yet aren't quite as far apart as the 589's, so the ride is a little smoother. Yet, the 'Claws are not considered a "pure" mud tire, such as the Vampires, or Outlaws.

Anyway, one of the guys I rode with had the old style 27" 589's on his '00 Grizz, they did great for him, you won't have any trouble at all with them, if that's what you go with. He loves his, I'm sure you will too.

Best of luck,

Mike

Hey Mike, I was just down at the dealers to measure the 589's. They are the newer ones and the front 27-9-12's are real close to stated measurements. The rear tires are a different story. They measure 26.5-10-12 which is smaller than the stated 27-11-12. I also noticed that they weigh more than my Blackwaters. Will this greater rotating mass affect power? I don't want to sacrifice any power for a little better bite. What do you think? Thanks.
