twist throttle on a banshee...ouch!
#12
I've had thumb throttles on all but one of my quads. That one being a Warrior that my wife road. For the Warrior it was fine. I think twists are fine on "slow reving predicable powerband 4 strokes", but they can be a handful on peaky/powerful built 2 strokes (Banshee's especially). With a thumb It's kind of comforting when you get out shape to be able to slip your thumb off (cease to accelerate), grab a handfull of grip to gain control and not accidently crank down on the throttle and gas it. IF your used to it maybe it's not a problem, maybe it just better for certain people? Funny this topic came up though as I just experienced this yesterday while test riding (and buying) a Banshee which has a twist on it. This Banshee classify's as a tweaky/powerful one as the motors fairly built and only runs on race gas. Anyway, when I test rode it I took it real easy and was very aware/leary of the twist. I'll get it a evaluate it more later this week when I hit the dunes. If I can't adapt to it I'll have to locate a thumb thottle and throw it on.

Update: Well I gave the twist a fair try over the Thanksgiving Day weekend and I didn't like it. The sand @ Pismo was really ruff, like a wash board. This caused quite a few jars to the ole wrist, which caused of course caused some unforseen twists of the throttle. So off it goes. I have already found a polished thumb throttle to throw on. I think I'll put the twist on the YFZ and see how it works on it.
