just wondering when the best time is to go to silver lake? planning a trip there, need info such as good places to stay, eat, other things to do. any info would be greatly apprecciated

 

The park doesn't open until April 1 and anytime would be good to go until Memorial Weekend. After that I'd avoid the weekends. The Best Western in town is very nice but a little pricey and there are several places nearby to eat.

try to avoid the holiday weekends, otherwise weekends are fine. just some advice, if you go on a weekend, get your parking voucher as soon as you get in town. the voucher booth is open at 6pm friday and open 24hrs. you can get your parking vouchers for saturday and sunday as well. this will guarantee you a parking spot. there are signs all over town that will point you to the voucher booth. as long as this system is still in place, last year was the first year they used it.

I camp out at the state park, its the cheapest and probably the closest to the dunes. and there is places to eat within walking distance of the camp grounds.

I called about 2 weeks ago to make reservations at SilverLake state park, and the only open time I got was in June. I usually stay from a thursday to a Sunday. Get the vouchers as soon as you get there, I didnt and it sucked I had to wait in line with all the other new comers and it took forever to get there.
