first time atv buyer help
I have been thinking about buying an atv for some time now and have decided to start looking at prices. I don't know much about atvs but i am looking for a older used atv for a cheap price(for i don't have too much money too spend on a brand new one). I plan on trailing and maybe mudding a few times, and have a bit of kick to it too. So i am wondering what models i should look at. thanks in advance

Well, a nice 4x4 utility is probably a good bet. As long as your not a huge guy or plan on pulling or towing a lot a 500 would probably be a good size. I originally bought used and the thing was pretty rough. I had trouble with it from day one so I traded it in on a new. My payments are only $120 a month so its less than the cost of repairing a used one every month.
As far as which brand you will get different opinions from everyone. I bought a Foreman for its ruggedness and reliability. I also got it because I found it as a 2007 leftover just a couple weeks ago. I really suggest buying new. Use your money as a downpayment, and maybe keep $500 of it in savings for an emergency in case you loose your job. Good luck.

There are a lot of good machines for your needs. I would also recommend a 500 class or so. The Honda that was mentioned is good. Also look at Yamahas, Suzukis, Polaris, and Kawasaki. I don't know too much about CanAm or Arctic Cat. But, they all make a good machine. Polaris has a very comfortable ride. I have a compressed disc and can ride the Polaris pretty much all day. I weigh 350 right now and the 500 moves me (and a passenger) fine. I would also recommend Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) for more ground clearance and a nicer overall ride. It won't corner as fast as a straight rear axle but is better in about every other circumstance.
