Default For the Hunters

To all you hunters out there, what do you think is the best ATV for hunting? What ATV best balances the ability to get deep into the wilderness, in rough terrain, have a long range, and still be quiet enough to try and not scare off the deer/prey?

I've only tried hunting with ATVs once on my friend's Polaris Sportsman and it was great. We could get further into the woods than we normally could and pack more gear, but we still ended up ditching the ATVs about a mile and a half from where we ended up Scoping for deer so that we wouldn't scare them away. Does anyone have an ATV that could do even better?

Most of the 500 class ATVs are good all around choices for just about every need you can think of. I like the Polaris Sportsman X2. It has 400 lb. rated rear spings and a dumpbox instead of a traditional rack. The dumpbox can also quickly convert to a passenger seat when needed. If you really want to go wild and get the heaviest duty quad width machine Polaris also makes the Big Boss 800 which has true 6 wheel drive, 800 lbs. of carrying, and a big dumpbox. For me, that would be the ultimate hunting rig.

Here in Texas, the grizzly, vinson, and eiger are the quads of choice for hunting. about equal to the number of Polaris UTVs out there hunting also.

From the responses I'm seeing it looks like all sorts of ATVs are used for hunting. Does anyone have a reason to pick on over another or does it just come down to people's brand preference?

Also I just checked out the Big Boss 800 and that thing would be perfect for getting your gear into the back country. Thanks for the heads up.
