Thumbs down ATV OEM Dealerships and their pure B.S. service departments!!!!

You know what is annoying with ATV dealers, is the Service dept. SUCKS.

If I took my Ford truck to a Ford dealer, I would get Ford trained technicians, and Ford parts installed on my truck.

If I took the same truck to a independent, I would get jack of all trades and probably NAPA parts.

Now, in the world of ATV's it just seems that the dealerships tech dept. have NO CLUE what they are doing. I take my ATV to a dealer service dept. because they are the "experts" of that brand.

I expect "factory" parts and techs that KNOW their product. I find that OEM ATV dealers hire anyone for the service dept. and more concerned with the "sales" dept.

This is my story as to what happened when I took my Suzuki in for service...

The carb was jacked, out of adjustment, ATV would NOT idle, dirty or whatever I took it in and they worked on it, 10 HOURS OF LABOR and they got it fixed, replaced needle and seat, I could have bought a NEW carb and have them install it for cheaper!!

Not only that, they also installed a "fuel filter" in the fuel hose!! The problem is that the fuel **** has the filter BUILT IN. No need for additional filter, but hey I guess I needed two filters, right?

and then guess what, THEY LOADED IT INTO MY TRUCK, and busted out my rear glass! But that was cool because of insurance!!!

I mean, come on guys, does it really take 10 hours of labor to adjust/rebuild a carb? and it wasn't a full rebuild either....

funny thing is it started seeping out fuel at the float bowl seal, I REBUILT IT THIS TIME, and found the float tab out of tolerance AND they reused the old o-ring for the carb bowl, they just smeared on RTV on the old seal!!

I will never take a ATV to a dealer again, the things I discussed above, I CAN SEE an independent dealer doing, but from the Suzuki dealer, I was expecting "Suzuki parts and Suzuki knowledgeable techs"

I lost $600 on this, got $200 for the busted glass in my old truck.

Sorry to hear that your dealer sucks. Thankfully they aren't all that bad. I do agree that they need more knowledge about their own brand. Keep your fingers crossed and hope you never have to take it to them again.

Not all are bad by any means, but sounds like you picked one of the worst. 10 hrs labor charged for a carb clean and rebuild? Just like anything else, find a good car mechanic and stay with him, same on atv dealers. If you find a good one that wont cost you an arm and leg when service is needed and has certified mechanics that have been around a while..

I've only taken mine to a dealer twice. Once under warranty and then with a transmission problem. Never had problems with them after that.

Of course, where I went they had a pretty good guy working back there.

There not all bad. I took my Polaris to the dealer once to get the clutch seals replaced because water was getting in the belt housing from behind. They took the clutches off replaced the two seals ,cleaned the clutches and replaced the belt for $320 total. The belt alone cost $70.
The hour bill was 3 hr. and there is much much more involved in that job then in a carb cleaning or rebuild.
10hr! they should be embarrassed. My dealer could rebuild a motor in that time.

For a carb cleaning I would not bother dropping off the ATV at my dealer across town and picking it back up even if they offered to do it for $50.

Dealers are just like any other service provider. Some are top notch and use quality parts. While others just suck. Now you know where not to go. Consider yourself luck your machine was not in for some kind of major overhaul.
The busted truck window is just insult to injury. I would of been having a fit until someone put a gift cert. in my greedy little hands.

Yeah that is the problem with Suzuki's, the closest dealer was like 35 miles away for a long time, it was a hassle. It's not like Honda/Yamaha or Polaris, got dealers everywhere for those......

The dealer I bought mine off of and that I use for service is 35 miles away vs. the local dealer who is 6 miles away. Totally pleased with their service is why I go there. One shitty dealer doesn't make them all bad. Go somewhere else.

Just to show you how 10hrs on a carb is way off. http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...d-range-2.html
I just wanted to follow up with the findings of the ATV.There was dirt in the carburetor. I took it to Pro Polaris and after just$69.00 they removed and cleaned the carburetor and now after a long test rideon the trails this weekend it runs great.
