125cc chinese atv no power
#1
Hi. I am working on a 125cc atv. It has no power at all...not only to the starter but no lights or anything. I know the ignition switch was bad and wired black and red together as seen on a forum still nothing. Dont thi k its the battery because a booster pack makes no difference. Also notice one back wire coming from cdi just hanging? Just wondering where to look next. Figured with powered battery amd ignition wired to test id atleast have lights. And inline fused was checked visually and looked good and checked with meter for connection between each end of the fuse holders and there is flow.

Sorry. The black wire is hanging out of a black box with 11 wires coming out of it mounted to frame...not cdi. Also..when tracing power through harness from battery its good to fuse...and checked into the smallmetal box with fins....still good when entering there...not sure where to go after that

so, you have power at the rectifier? Finned box. how about downstream of your ignition switch? have you checked the red slider kill switch? is there a master kill switch besides the keyed ignition? under the plastic hood under the headlight area, some quads have additional fuse boxes mounted there. do you have a make/model of the quad you're working on? we may have a wiring diagram to help you out.

I do not have make and model but ill check when I get there tonight. Is there somewhere it would be located...nothing on the plastics. And there is no kill switch or fuses by ignition on this one just kill switch by the lights and starter button. I will check for voltage at that kill switch tonight. Ignition switch was all busted so im hoping having the bLck and red together and other two loose is acceptable for testing.

i was hoping there was a sticker or metal ID tag near the front grab handle or on the vertical downtube of the handlebars. surely there is a VIN right there in both areas or on the left horizontal frame runner near the left foot area. 17 digit alphanumeric code might tell us something. pictures may help also.

well at least we know it is a TaoTao 125cc. if only you could make out the 10th digit, that'll tell you the year model. BUT, that should be close enough to get a new rectifier from a TaoTao dealer/website.
