Default Synthetic Rope

I just bought my first atv. I want to have an extra 50' of rope. I see there is a wide range of prices. Do you have to spend big bucks to get a good rope. What size of bow shackle should I use for winching.

As the saying goes..you get what you pay for...most always holds true! Synthetic rope is costly as it is fairly new but lots of import ropes have improved in quality recently. I spent around 60 bucks for a 50' syn rope 3yrs back and it has worked very well! It is gonna depend on what you do with it and how you take care of it....

Thanks. So you don't have to spend $200-$300 for one.

I buy cheap ones on Amazon. I never INTEND to need to use them, but they haven't failed me yet and I'm put at least a dozen pulls on the cheap line on both of my quads. I figure that for as much as I need them, I'll buy another cheap one when I need it. Actually I keep a spare new one in the garage just in case I need to throw it on! Now that being said, I have relatively small and light machines (Yamaha 350 4x4's). And yes it certainly does depend on how you treat them. Chaffe them against rocks, let them bake in the sun, don't wash them out after running them through muddy water, even the more expensive ones will fail on you...

Your atv old or new? What does it have on it now cable or rope... If its a older machine with rope i would swap out the rope on the machine for new and use the old rope as your extension then you have a reliable rope on the machine... If its new with cable i would switch the cable out for rope and just get a spare rope toss the cable in the garbage.. Sure ruins a day of fun when you get poked by wire rope and your hand is sore all day from it..LOL.. Rope is much safer when it breaks and just nicer to use.. First thing i did when i got my machine is pull the cable and switch to rope... Sold the old cable and fairlead for about 1/2 of what the rope and new fairlead cost so it was not to bad

Thanks for info. I have a new 650xt. Has wire cable now. Haven't used it yet. Is there a brand or price range of rope I should get. What size of shackle should I use for winching.

Cant remember what shackles i have on my machine i think i have used them once in 8 years..lol... With the hook in the winch the shackle is rarely needed when u use a tree saver/strap. I have used this on my last 2 machines with no problem have only broke it once but that was my fault running it over a sharp edge i did not see and a harder pull that my winch could handle..

Thanks. I bought a 7/8" shackle but hook is to small to clip on to it. I can put pin through shackle and hook at same time. I can use shackle on hitch and get smaller one for winch.
