here's a pic of the new tires they are putting on these,
mine looks just like this one (except the blue looks a whole lot better in person).

Those look like they'd work much better than the stock ones that came on my KPX's. What size are they?

Default twister hammerhead 150cc go off road go kart

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has checked the speed on their Hammerheads. I have used both a GPS unit and installed a bicycle speedometer on the kart. Both of these read 30 mph on asphalt going down a slight incline. Advertised speed is 36+ for this kart. I have an email out to tjpowersports to see if they have any thoughts. I checked the plug and it looks like the mixture is fine so I would hate to try and just lean it out. Anyone else check speed?
Thanks

I've checked both my Yerf-Dog 3206 and my KPX Xterro with a GPS. Both clocked in at 31 MPH.

My tires say 22-10-10 on the side, look the same size as my Hondas, I think they are taller than last years version, this may make top speed slightly higher. They do a nice job of tearing up the bermuda grass I call a lawn. Also I like the square profile of them, I think they have too much air in the one in the picture because mine look perfectly flat on top. I will be testing them out this weekend hopefully on some real trails. I am not sure if I should change the oil before then. I only have 45 fairly easy minutes on the engine but want it to last. Someone said the stock oil was pretty wimpy. I doubt I can ride it for much longer without getting on it, especially in the woods. I told my wife if this one is as much fun in the woods as I think its going to be I may order a cheaper (and lighter) single seat version but she said if I do that she wants one for her and our other boy to ride in.

Yes on that oil. I have found, fairly universally, that Chinese/Tiawanese motor producs come with very thin oil. Something like 20 weight.

i DRAIN THEM AND PUT IN 30w for break in, and 50W for running. In these, cheap oil, I think, is best. The cheap brands don't put in the additives that the expensive ones do, which is better for a wet clutch.

Since these karts don't have a wet clutch, any automotive type oil will do fine. I'm running Royal Purple 15W-40 synthetic in the engine. And Royal Purple gear oil in the gear case.

While we are on the subject of oil I have a problem that I hope someone can help with. The "bargain" KPX 150 that I bought on Ebay arrived yesterdsay. I assembled it and fired up the engine...all seemed fine. It was 10:00 at night and my kids were flying around the yard and driveway for about an hour. We put it in the garage for the night and noticed a large amount of oil dripping out of the plastic housing that protects the clutch/flywheel/fan and the rest of the motor was drenched in oil as well. I disassembled the housing and the leak appears to be coming from behind the clutch pack (passenger side of engine). I assume the eqivalent to a cars rear main seal is the culprit but I'm not sure. Has anyone had this problem?

I attempted to remove the clutch pack but couldn't budge the nut, I think it was an 18mm. The cover behind the clutch is mounted with a series of 9mm bolts but I think I need to remove the clutch first. THis is the cover where the inductive pick up mounts to the engine in order to read the flywheel. Any suggestions are appreciated?

P.S. I did notice that the crankcase was over filled with oil from the factory but I doubt this is a contributing cause.

It is possible that the overfilling of oil caused excessive crankcase pressure to build up creating your leak. I'd try correcting the oil level first. If that doesn't work. Then here is a link to the online Yerf-Dog(same engine) service manual. You most likely will have to have a YAHOO account to access the link though.

Thanks for the link but I got a page not found message rather than a log in screen as I do have a Yahoo Acct. COuld you post one more time. Thanks. The oil level is correct now but it's still leaking. That seal must be the culprit I just can't get the clutch pack off.
