Default Rhino 450 vs. 660

I do not own either so take it for what it is....

dirt wheels magazine did an article comparing the two a couple of months ago, they gps'ed the 450 at about 35 mph and the 660 at 40 mph. I think they are governed at this speed???

There are more 660's because they have been around longer...the 450 is brand new this year ( I think).

They spoke (wrote) highly of the 450 for the price, I think it would do an adequate job for what you need, especially if your footing the bill

good luck,

Chris

Layman, thanks for the info, that is the type of stuff I am looking for. Do you know what month of Dirt Wheels that was in? Can you search archives of it on the internet or can I find a back-issue printed you think? I am ready to buy, just cant decide.

Default Rhino 450 vs. 660

It was Dirt Wheels Issue april 06

On tight trails and for climbing and mud, they said the 450 was equal to the 660. You have to stay on the gas on the 450 to keep up. BUt they gave the advantage to the 660 for top speed and accelleration. 5mph different on gps. The numbers I stated above were correct. The speedometers were overly optomistic, accourding to the article.

Good luck

Thanks for all the info. I rode both and decided on the 450. It seemed identical to the 660 on the test ride. I had the dealer find me a red one. Pick it up in the next few days.

Default Rhino 450 vs. 660

I own the 450 and I use on the farm, trail riding, and for hunting, the only time a 660 has left me was on a long straight aways. I have an 04 Grizzly 660 and it has averaged about 10 mph since new, so the 450 was a no brainer, combined with the oil consumption and high reverse gear issues raised on other sites with the 660, I chose wisely and I am very happy with my choice and I saved roughly $1600 over the 660.

A couple of things brought up else where are issues with the high reverse gear in the 660 causing problems with reverse stall when your faced with a situation you need to back out of and excessive oil consumption.

Is the 450 a better choice for everyone, no, is the 660 a better choice, no. We aren't the ones going to be ridden it, you are. use your better judgment, make a list of priorities, with must haves, and wants and pick the best choice. Besides the power plant and transmission gearing they are exactly the same machine.

This is my opinion and it carries no more weight than any one else's.

Default Rhino 450 vs. 660

I piked my 450 up yesterday. I like it. I have not really got to put it to the test, and I am already looking for a digital dash for it, but so far I like it. I was suprised how easy it is t get stuck. The ditch in front of my house was no challange for my quads, however the Rhino got stuck, and would not come out even in diff lock. Little to no traction. Also looking into different tires, but overall I am happy.
