Have you seen a inner clutch hub break?
My clutch went south on the 440ex and I took her apart and also found a cracked and groved out inner hub. No one around here (honda dealers, and local shops) have seen one get messed up. Its not expensive, but I am curious if anybody has seen this before, and in particular, if anybody knows a cause.
thanks in advance

Beech,
Do you agree with what Jay said? I think he meant a used bunch of plates, but not sure.
I am just trying to figure out if it was an installation thing, a heat thing, a power thing, or just a accident?
Any Ideas?, the Billet crap is super spendy.

sh*t happens. Do i agree? no. Its just from wear and tear, stuff like that will happen from time to time. Its not because you had paddles or because you were wearing nike's instead of Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word 's. More or less just an accident. be happy you caught it before it really came apart on you

Thats what I thought. Since no body has seen one around here, I figured it was a fluke accident thing. Yeah I am glad, I woudl hate to see what would happen if it grenaded in there.
Thanks for your opinion....

I've seen one 400ex clutch frag also. Clutch parts all over inside the engine, required complete teardown to clean out the pieces. Even broke the steel primary gear on the clutch basket. I couldn't say for sure what part fragged first, but what was left of the plates didn't look burnt or scored. No other engine damage was done, but had the potential for all kinds of ugly. The machine had quite a bit of use and was in fair stock condition. The owner didn't know what he might have done to make it happen, and the inside of the engine was real clean like frequent oil changes were done. No clear cause for it to happen, but it probably started out as a crack (like yours sandneck), and just got to a point and gave out. Like Beech said, lucky you found it when you did.
