Why is the top speed of sport/utility ATV's so important? I wouldn't think a machine designed for work and play top end would be such a concern. I understand the need for "acceleration" because that would be a fair indicator of bottom end.

Just curious.

I like to know the top speed of all quads. It shows their limits. Most every car made will do well over a speed limit. So it's more interesting to know something like 0 to 60mph. It's also interesting to know how fast a quad is on the bottom end but the quads have top end limits. In my case, I want to know if it's worth buying a quad that may only do 45mph (for +twice the money) when the quad I sold did 47mph. When the trail opens up and it's time to play, some people like to know if their buddy is going to blow them away. I'd top out the speed everytime I'd drive to my neighbors house. Although my average overall speed would be around 12mph. As long as there are limits then people will be curious what the limits are.

Where I ride basically all you do is hold it wide open down the gravel roads. The guy with the slower bike is the one that eats the most roost, it's a simple as that.

I didn't notice you said sport/utility. I guess your right, the top speed on one of those really doesn't matter as long as it could go 45 mph or so.

On sport machines it's important, that gravel roost hurts like hell when you are behind someone at 85 mph.

It never bothers me, most places I ride you never get to top speed anyway, occasionally you will on the roads getting there, even then its not an issue.
