According to the manual, they should be inspected and adjusted if needed. I have not had my AT in for its first service yet, but the valve adjustment is supposed to be part of it.

I have an '01 350 rancher ES, and seem to remember adusting them after 20 hours? can't remember the exact time frame. but it's very simple to do yourself. take off the valve cover, set piston to TDC on compression stroke, measure clearance with feeler guages, if necessary loosen adjusting nut, tighten adustment screw while holding nut to desired gap( I think it's 0.008) but it's definitely in your owner's manual, then while holding screw in place tighten that nut back up. piece of cake. once you take all the plastic off, and the tank, it's only about a 15 minute job setting the valves.
but your dealership will surely do your first service if you need it.
