The real difference is that the 250X is kick start other than that they are the same, pretty much.

300ex has a longer stroke, so it makes a little more torque. The 250x is about 15 pounds lighter. People will debate which is faster. I own a 87 250x and a 97 300ex. The 300ex is faster and stronger. They are both piped. The 300ex has a K&N and the 250x has a UNI. I have heard that the 250x has a bigger carb. Overall, the only practical differences are the electric start and a slightly larger discplacement. Also the 87 250x has a 4X110 front bolt pattern(Dumb idea from Honda)
