Default Rincon Tranny

I have a '04 Rincon and while pushing snow this winter I noticed that once it warmed up it had some hesitation when I would push the gas. The idle seemed a little high and I wonder if that is the problem? How do you check the idle speed? The problem only seemed to happened when it warmed up. High idle and hesitation...The hesitation I am talking about is when I would push on the gas and the engine would rev up and the tranny wouldn't engage for a couple of seconds and then it would grab and the atv would lurch forward or backward.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

On honda trannys it takes a couple of seconds for the hydraulic transmission to build up pressure. But it really shouldn't take that long. It should still keep going but just hesitate for just a second for the pressure to build up.

The TPS does have an affect on the transmission. I have noticed some units that have not been initialized since set-up. They can be experiencing up and down shift point problems as well.
Try this :
Drive the unit ahead in D1, Stop the unit, key off, shifter in neutral. Depress the up and down shift buttons at the same time, while holding them both, turn on the key, let off the up-down buttons, within a few seconds of releasing, push the shift buttons in this sequence, up-down-up, then fully open the throttle and release. Wait a few seconds and the 'N' on the meter will appear. Initialization has completed. If it does not, repeat the procedure.
If you do any major idle adjustments, initalize the unit again.
Let me know if this does not cure the problem.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I will try what has been said and let you know what I find.

I looked through my owners manual and can't find where to check the tranny oil. Do I check the engine oil? Are the engine and tranny connected somehow and use the same oil pan?

Yes they are the same oil. Check at the oil dipstick. I suggest 0w-30 oil in below freezing temps. 5w-30 normal temps.
