ATC 250sx Clutch question????
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and I just wanted to ask a question about my '85 ATC250sx that i just got for (believe it or not) $300.00. The clutch seems to slip just a little when you first start to roll out in first gear. After about 2-3 feet it hooks up and away you go. Is this normal for a ATC that is 19 years old. It still has the original tires on it and is in really great shape. Just needs a rear fender and a front one. Any help help would be great.
Thanks

Hey SXer,
Welcome to the forums!!
You may be able to fix your slipping problem by adjusting the clutch.
If you look on the right side engine case, there is a nut with a screw in it with a screwdriver slot.
Loosen the nut
Turn the screw counterclockwise until you just feel it to get tight
Turn the screw bak a 1/4 turn
Tighten the nut while holding the screw from turning

ATC 250sx Clutch question????
I adjusted the clutch last night...a little better but it still slips just a bit. Should I tighten it up a little more or just ride it the way it is? Also how hard is it to change the clutch pack? Can you still get the parts?
One more thing...I need a light switch/kill switch module that mounts on the left handle bar. Anyone know where to get this part?
Thanks,
Honda250SXer

ATC 250sx Clutch question????
There is only one correct adjustment for the clutch linkage (knowsalot described the correct adjustment procedure). Any other setting will be downhill from there. If the problem is only noticed when you "first roll out in first gear", you may want to have a look at the other clutch. The centrifugal clutch is responsible for connecting engine and drive train when a certain RPM is reached. That's why you don't just take off when the engine is running at idle. There is no adjustment on the centrifugal. You can inspect both clutches by removing the engine right sidecover. You would want a shop manual to go by if you're going to tackle the job yourself.
