Synthetic has nothing to do with friction modifiers. You can even run full synthetic in your tranny...the trick is finding the RIGHT synthetic...and paying for it. I'm planning on running the Honda HP4M in the engine, which I believe is a semi-synthetic, and the HP tranny oil for two-strokes in the tranny.

As for running full automotive synthetic in your bike, don't do it. Just because it's "automotive synthetic" doesn't mean that it's better. You need to run API SG or SH grade oil in your bike. The higher grades actually have less protection than the older SG. Also look for JASO MB for your engine side, and JASO MA for your tranny. MA is without friction modifiers, MB is with.

Basically, just make sure that if you do run full synthetic, it has an API grade of SG or SH, not SI, SJ, or any other higher API rating, and you'll know you are running the best oil you can run.

I'm useing Mobile 1 MX4T 10W40 motorcycle oil in my Rincon. Fully synthetic, API SG,SH/CF, JASO MA. No friction modifiers. This is a full synthetic that you "CAN USE". Kind of pricey though, $8.99 a qt at auito zone. Mobile also has a line of 2-stroke oil's. Go to their web site.

Great article! Everything that applies to the CRF's, applies to your TRX! Also,

Why not pick a blended oil? Petrolium oil is slicker (the molecules are smaller and irregular) and synth stands up to the heat and wear better. A blended oil has the best of both worlds! My choice for the 450 is Honda HP4M (with moly) for the motor, and Honda HP Trans Oil for the trans.

Honda recommends dino oil only (GN4) for its autoclutch bikes, like your Foreman. If you read the back of the HP4 (dino/synth blend), it says not for autoclutch bikes. I think synths can make the centrifugal clutchs slip.
