450R problems
#11
I had one of the first yr Crf450 dirtbikes, and had over 50hrs with no problems. Although I did have to adjust the valves twice, its a high performance thumper, what do you expect. It was stone reliable for me, and with the extra precautions and how the atvs are tuned down I'd say there shouldn't be any problem getting plenty of hrs between a topend rebuild.

heres what was explained to me...yes the new 450's require 100hr rebuilds...Just like there dirtbike cousins... these are high performance machines and need to be maintained as such.
now, if youve purchased one of these and your not riding track or racing it. just using it as a normal trail machine and you conduct frequent oil changes...you should be able to double the timeframe before break down is necassary.
but your rolling the dice inregards to your warranty.
i explained to my dealer that i will be racing my YFZ and will not be bringing it in for a rebuild regardless of hrs on the machine until the off-season...he asked for me to keep track of oil changes and said that would be fine and he would cover any warranty claims.
i asked him to put it in writing...he was'nt sure he could do that. instead he called in the service Manager and agreed to this deal infront of him. we'll see.

YFZ-I wasn't necessarily refering to you personally as an "average joe", but you do made yourself look like a bit of an amateur when you buy a machine without researching stuff like this first! Next time, ask the important questions BEFORE you buy the bike!
