RUBICON VS RANCHER >>>>Drag Race
#1
My Hillbilly friend Conrad thinks that his Rancher can beat a Rubicon in a drag race just because the Ruby is automatic. What do you think??? How does the Rubicon do against a 300ex in a drag race??????

Yes, the Ruby will walk away from the Rancher. You friend does not much about trannies. Autos are the way to go in a drag race. Just look at all the drag cars in the world. 90% are auto. And with no lag time on the Ruby tranny....well.

Actually, if you are talking about top-fuel dragsters, they use a single-speed manual transmission, that basically rides the clutch halfway down the track. If the clutch engages too fast, they boil the tires off, if not fast enough, well, they loose. But, you are right that most pro-street cars and bracket racers do use automatic trannies, because they shift instantly and allow you to run a stall torque converter, so you can put more power to the ground off-the-line.

Bill, actually the Rubicon and the 300EX are neck and neck in a drag race. The Rubicon WILL get a jump off the line due to its tranny, and the 300EX will pull it in if you really push it. I have a 14 tooth front sprocket on mine, maybe that makes a difference too.

The Rubicon has more valves (4 vs 2), larger engine (499cc vs 329cc) but weighs about 70 pounds more.
A drag race really shouldn't be close.

Have both. The Rancher is stock expect a lift kit. The Rubicon has 27 vamps on it. Let's just say even with the oversized tires on the Rubicon, the Rancher still is not even close to winning. By the way, the Rubicon is even faster with ESP mode on, due to not needing to let throttle off to shift.
