It's called a bearing carrier adn you can get it a lot cheaper on ebay. I had to buy one from the dealer in April because we were on vacation at the dunes when it broke. It was $300.00 like you said. I checked ebay when I got home and they were aselling for as little as $75.00 for a stock one. Good luck!

Depending upon how bad the crack is, you can always have it welded. I had one welded right where the seal runs. A guy welded it and turned it back smooth on a lathe...good as new.

If you are talking about the bearing carrier, you can get a brand new one for around $150 which includes a double row of bearings and seals. Don't go stock. The aftermarket bearing carriers are better than stock.
