Default Rubicon....Flashing Display!

I have a 2000 Rubicon and lately about halfway throough a decent ride (2-3 hours) my dospaly starts to flash and the machine locks into 1st gear. I did the fault code retrieval (code 5)

Is there a pretty common fix for this? Maybe a tech notice of some kind?

If you've been around water of any kind whatsoever, check the ECM located directly between the battery and the toolbox in the back. Check your manual for a better description of where it is. Mine did the EXACT same thing after I gave it a really good pressure wash and there was moisture in the ECM. Dry it out good with an air compressor if there's any water in it and spray some dielectric spray on the electrical parts inside to help dry it and waterproof it a little bit for future water adventures. Let me know how it goes. HOWEVER, if there's no water in the ECM, then it is very likely the angle or speed sensor. This is a somewhat common problem with the earlier models and you can simply order and replace one of these sensors if you discover which it is. Either of these is a fairly easy fix so good luck.

Thanks....found the ECM and angle sensor. I have washed the ATV before with a presure washer and it does see some occasional water during rides....deep water come to think of it.
Irroncially, I have to wash it again just to get at the ECM cause it's pretty coated with mud. Will update you on the results.
