Recon 250 Problems
Hope this post is not to late for you,
first check the pilot screw located at the front of the carb. close it but not to tight then if below 3000 ft altitude then open the pilot valve two (2) complete turns, make sure that the idel screw is up high enough to make it fast idol.
let the quad warm up for about 10 minuts then turn the idol screw till the quad is running 1400 RPM
Adjust the pilot screw out 1/2 turn so the RPM comes up as high as it goes then turn the idol screw back till the motor is running at 1400 RPM.
if you still have problems please let me know
John

a lighthouse in Lethbridge?? unless it's your favorite retro-Canadian band! anyways, my '02 Recon ES is rough on cold start. NO CHOKE to start it. a little choke to keep it going. I took out the mixture screw about 2 full turns. your saying maybe a bit more? (plus I took carb apart and cleaned it, plus cleaned air filter and airbox). once warm it runs well. what a pain to get at that screw!! What were you engineers thinkin at Honda?? (hoping only dealers would work on them, I'd guess).

LOL I collect lighthouses and have about 500 or so.
the pilot screw on these units are hard to get at but there is a proper tool to use for them . I bought one through the dealer where I work I think it was $50.00 bucks but has saved me lots of sore fingers . If you decide to get one let me know I can get them a bit cheaper but not really that much.
Check your altitude and the higher you go over the 3000 ft mark then the pilot screw should be adjusted. If you life 4000 plus the re-jetting the unit is required.

i live very close to the real thing (lighthouses), so I'm basically at sea level, and we ride in the mtns up to 3000' (i'd guess). for me, it's the exhaust pipe that keeps burning my fingers. i bought a flex screwdriver from Princess Auto, but it still won't fit in there. but just a thin screwdriver bit for a cordless seems to fit and turn that screw.
