Thats unusual, my buddies brand new 04 Predator had to go back to the dealer 3 times cause it wouldn't start in 75 degree weather.

don't know why it has to be 2 pumps, but if it works I don't question it.
Those carbs have an accelerator pump,,,,every pump of the throttle is a little squirt of gas

also a real easy way to flood it

If its been sitting more than a couple weeks then drain float bowl until you see steady stream of gas hitting the drain pan. Too many 400EX owners run heavy oil like 20-50 year round. Switch to 10-40 in the winter. I often turn up idle if its been sitting awhile. Start um up at least every two weeks and keep the tank topped off while sitting. If sits longer than a couple weeks use Sta-Bil. The bigger pilot is great tip. Also adjust pilot mixture screw after you get it running and it warms up good.

This is my cold starting situation.

When it gets below 40 degrees or so it is real hard to start.
My 400EX has a 11:1 stock bore piston a stage 2 hot cam, pipe and jet kit(with a 42 pilot), K&N with outerwere, high rev box, and the air box cover removed. The only thing else modded on my engine is that I took my choke out (suppose to gain 1 hp). That was my only mistake. When I tried putting it back in I stripped out the little screws that hold the chokeplate in, and ended up breaking one of them off in the choke rod. So I just eliminated my choke all together. If I have my quad in my semi-heated garage (45 degrees) put in the stock rev box and blerp the throttle a couple times it slowly starts. The problem is I can't just order a new choke assembly, I have to order a whole new carb to get the parts that I broke.

Does anyone have a used carb I can buy?

I also her somewhere that there is a higher powed batery you can buy, but I dont know what size it is. ??

Is there anything else I can do to besides getting a new carb?

I don't remember off the top of my head but couldn't you drill out the old screw and get replacements to mount the choke plate?
