on the highway in winter, pretty cold up here in canada, and without the baffle, everythin else was completely stock, i hit 71 mph. used a gps. but i am also a light rider at 150 lbs

 

i dont know how acurate my trail tech computer is but i have a 400ex u can see the mods if you click my profile and the trial tech saids my max speed was 71.3 mph

 

my trail tech tells me - 72.9

 

what kind of mods do you have done on your bike? when i said 71.3 i havnt had mine completely topped out. thats just all i had the ***** for on a dirt road.

 

these seem awfully fast for a 400ex.

 

The correct answer for top speed of a 400ex is.........SLOW!

 

One of my riding buddies has had a GPS for a year now and it has never logged a top speed of over 65mph.
Of course its mostly winter riding trails and lakes with the drag of snow and studded tires. Its a 99 bone stock. When drag racing newer 400exs it usually wins by just a little . Thier good reliable quads. With a good rider they can easily hold thier own on the trails .

 

shanksta, i am gettin about tired of readin your post of downin the 400ex, just because you dotn have one dosnt mean you have to down it. theres another post that i read where you said the z was much better. you obviously havnt ever ridden a 400ex. i mean come on you ride a Bombardier ds650 and act like you have to badest four wheeler ever, well im here to tell you anytime you want to bring that ds to tennessee ill hurt your feelins in a drag race with our raptor or lt500r and ill hurt your feelins on the track and trail with any of our z400s and 400ex. to tell you the truth you dotn even act like you have a bike. i get so sick of guys geting on here and downin other bikes! how about you just stay out of honda forums if all your gonna do is trash them.

i have been reading this and have to butt in, for the fact that the following happend in this sequence to me and my friends 2000 DS650

me and my friend raced accross a open farm field, him on a Stock DS650 with 20" holeshots, and 22" holeshots, bumper, nerfs, full skids. myself i was on a 2001 400ex stock except 20" razr 2s and 22" razr 2 frounts, with a dg bumper and full skids, so the bike are almost the same in the mod department.

we raced flat out accross a almost 3/4 mile field, dead level and straight, under ideal dry conditions.

1st run....and every run

Me on the 400ex, got him on the holeshot EVERY time, we got to 5th and he took me by about 5 lengths. and we were both hitting the rev limiters.

2nd run.....Just 2wks later, only difference is.

400ex- Full sparks X6 system, jetted to perfection. DS650- same as above.

we raced again under the same conditions, and here is the results.

400ex got the holeshot again, but this time instead of him passing me...we were dead even through the gears all the way to top end. so either 1 of 2 factors here.

the 400ex is faster then people think, and will do 70mph, because i wouldnt doubt it would, or the ds is overrated. i mea DS650s are fast, sure, but 250cc's should blow my doors in, but then there is the power to weight ratio which in that department the 400ex is the winner. i would take a 400 over a ds anyday, the DS is a tank, just to darn big, and doesnt jump well, and the turning radius is tremendous.

to answer the question i wouldnt doubt a 400ex can do 68.

in about a week or so i am going to get a video to prove this.
