Default 400ex clicks and doesnt start

My 400ex decided to be a pain and stop starting for me. I push the start button and I get a click from the starter solenoid and nothing else. I know the battery, starter and fuses are good, I think it's a grounding issue or something being loose. Anyone have this problem before and know where a good place to start would be? Thanks

Sorry to tell you but, it's probably the relay. I just bought one from the bike shop and it cost about $60. My 400ex did the exact same thing.

Try crossing the relay with a wrench and see if it goes then.

If the solenoid clicks it is normally good, I think the starter brushes are bad.

As you can see from above posts, lots of things it could be, so test and find out. Firstly check all earth and thick pos wires are clean and tight. Next get a 12v incandescent test light (LEDs are useless for testing). Put one lead on solenoid to starter wire, other to earth. Switch ign on, press start button. If solenoid clicks but lamp doesn't light, faulty solenoid, if lamp does light but starter doesn't turn, faulty starter, usually brushes. Faulty brushes get a bit intermittent, so jumping the terminals isn't the best way to test, brushes could decide to work when you jump the terminals, so you think it is a solenoid fault. A test light shows the true fault.
