Default Head gasket leak? on 2-stroke

When I run my ride a little, a little smoke or steam starts coming from the head gasket area closest to the radiators. I took the head off and there was a little oil on that portion of the head gasket and on the inside of the dome, there is a little half moon of black stuff in the same area as it seemed to be leaking...any ideas about this guys? I'm gonna replace the head gasket and see if it helps.

When you remove the head, be sure to super clean the gasket surface.
Do the same with the top of the cylinder.
Then, see if it leaks. If it does, take the head off again and this time spray Copper Coat on both sides of the gasket and try again. That should fix any leak.

I'd put a new gasket on it and then buy silicon gaket maker and put a light coat on both sides of the gasket. That should help it. I did that to my 50 and it worked.

The reason to use the copper coat as opposed to the silicone stuff; the silicone stuff will make the gasket area much thicker and thus lower your compression where the copper coat won't. You want more compression than less, ya know?

Hey, thanks for the great replies guys, i appreciate it. I was wondering though where I might get copper coat? At an auto shop? harware store?...also I have some pictures of opened cylinder and inside of the dome I will post when I get them on the comp. If any one could take a look at them to see if the black stuffs normal in the area it is, that'd be really cool thanks again - Chris

I would be leary about putting ANY silicon or gasket product on the head gasket. I have seen this done on car heads and the heat eventually erodes the silicon/gasket maker and you end up with a leaky gasket again. I would go with a high quality head gasket and just use that with no other products, unless called for in specs.
