lectron carb for 400ex
#11
I have a Wiseco stock-bore 11:1 compression piston, XR400 cam, Uni air filter, and an FMF Powr Core IV-2 silencer. Is the Lectron carb a good "bang for the buck"? Would it be good for MX? Which size would you suggest for a good increase through the powerband (especially for mid and top)?
The price looks good on this carb. Especially if it performs well. I've been having jetting troubles with my stock carb after doing my motor work, and I'm about to dump the stocker. Please help me out if you can. Thanks.

You get a excellent increase from mid to topend, and the throttle response to increased. But, before you go out and buy one make sure you read the above posts. I too have had issues with the carb. Such as
1) The throttle occasionally sticking.
2) The idle can be a pain in the @$$ to get right.
3) You have to grind out your throttle housing and add a spacer under your gas tank for it to fit right. Also, it fits into the intake at about 1 o' clock.
It has great performance for the price but it can be frustrating to get it to fit. Although, it is easy to adjust. I bought mine from TC racing and the only thing I had to do was turn the needle 1/4 turn to lean out the low end.

I know that the Lectron carb has some issues, but for the price, the performance sounds hard to beat. There may be better out there, but the Lectron seems to be the best for it's price. Which size would you all suggest? Any other info would be appreciated.
I'm not 100% sure I'll purchase this carb at this time. Hopefully I can get my stocker performing the way it should. If not, I may have to resort to the Lectron or other sooner than I had planned. Thanks for your help.

Hey there-If price is an issue go for the Lectron. If you want a true bolt on fit check out the Edelbrock carb. I have been running it for about six months now and have had zero problems with it. It started and idled right out of the box and I have yet to have to take it apart and clean it to prevent sticking. It is my understanding that the Edelbrock carb was designed by the same man that designed the Lectron back in the 70's. Edelbrock just made it better by putting the accelerator pump on it. Just remember, you get what you pay for! I got the carb from G.W.C. for $390. Money well spent in my book.
