Recon, Doesn't shift. Just blinks on 1rst
#1
I am new to this forum,
03 Honda Recon
Does anyone know how to fix this problem ? The ATV doesn't shift & the 1rst gear light just blinks,
I was reading about some else here that had a similar issue, but I never read if he fixed the problem.
Any help would be great !

if you look on the left side of the engine just below the foot guard, there is a hexagonal shaft sticking out about an inch. thats the emergency shift thingy. If you look in the back trunk thing, where the tool kit is stored, you will find a metal lever with a hexagonal hole in it that fits on that shaft and extends out so you can kick it with your foot.
rotating backwards is shift up, forwards is shift down. Dont overwork it, it's not good for the shift motor to be moving it around, but it works for emergencies.
sounds like you got something wrong tho, dont think that just putting it in neutral is gonna fix anything.

There is something wrong,
I started it up last night & it worked, then..it didn't, weird..
It needs a new battery, I'm gonna start with replacing the battery & give it a tune up & clean everything I possibly can. If it still is acting up , I think I'm gonna bring it in to the proffessionals...

Es will not work if the battery is disconnected or if it has a bad cell. It has to make a complete circuit or es will not work.
My positive wire broke on me once and i couldn't shift until I spliced it back togheter in the woods.

My ride is actually a 2001 & I have never replaced the battery, I think that is the major problem.
Thanks for the advice

If its a 2001, then it wont flash a code. Youll need a clymers manual or honda service manual, to troubleshoot the problem. Going to nuetral and going key off and key on, will clear whatever the code was, but if theres still a problem, itll just come back.
Its posible that replacing the battery will fix it, and if it doesnt , then do the clutch adjustment, and if you want to do the work, youll need a manual, or someone to step you through the voltage and resistance checks. Its not that hard to do, but youll need a voltohmmeter and know how to use it.
