450es or RANCHER ES?

the rancher is a better trail machine. it is lighter, more nimble and handles better.
the foreman is a better work quad. it has more torque, heavier, and stiffer suspension. both have about the same top-end....the foreman has to work harder to get to that top end because it is geared lower.

Of course, the dealer won't let you take both home and test ride them for a weekend. However, do test ride both at the dealership if possible, and get a feel for the controls and handling of each.
Cartman hit the nail on the head. Each ATV is "geared" for different uses. The Rancher is lighter and somewhat more nimble for trail riding. I live in the Pocono Mountains of Pa. and my Rancher has never left me stuck. The ground clearance is better and the 350 has plenty of low end torque to get over the rockiest of terrain. I'm also looking forward to test it in snow come this winter.
Plus, you'll save a few bucks with the Rancher over the 450... Best of luck!

I, too, have both and I prefer the Foreman. This is mainly due to the extra torque. I find that in similar riding conditions I can be one gear higher with the Foreman. I also prefer the ergomomics of the Foreman.
The Rancher does handle a bit better but not by a great deal. Believe me, we have actually measured the turning diameter of both and if my memory is correct there was a difference of 1 foot. That translates into 5%.
With all due respect to patrailrider, there is no difference in ground clearance. I have measured both when they were sitting in my garage and they are exactly the same. I know that Honda publishes different numbers but they measured from the rear differential on the Foreman and from under the frame on the Rancher (my theory). But trust me, they are the same.
Someone also mentioned that they had the same top end but the Foreman had a harder time getting there. Again, my son and I have run the two bikes off numerous times. The Foreman is 1 or 2 MPH faster but it gets there much quicker (more torque).
Bottom line is that, in my opinion, both are good bikes. My preference is the Foreman. Others, obviously, differ in their opinion.
