Well, I am fortunate enough to have both. It basically boils down to what kind of riding you want to do. No utility can match the speed and agility of a sport quad. No sport quad can match the mudrunning and cargo/tow capabilities of a 4x4. However, I've followed 4x4's everywhere on my 400EX. I may not be able to climb the hill as slowly, but I can get up most anything the 4x4 can, I just have to go much faster. Like riding slow technical trails, muddy beyond belief or enjoy a smoother ride with less rider effort, stick with the utility. If you like going fast, enjoy using more body language while riding, get the sport quad and have fun!!!

guess it depends on what you want it for, but i would not trade my SP for my Warrior back yeah it was a good machine , but anyone can argue it if they want but any mudding you really have to beat on it to go were the 4x4's go, people say they follow the 4x4's but they do if we tow them along. not just mud either, have seen so many guys have to get off to lift there sport atv's off rocks and stumps.

There are some interesting posts here. I know that the ideal thing would be to have a utility and a sport quad like some of you lucky guys do, but I can't afford that. At least not if I want to stay married! That is why I'm surprised that the OEM's haven't designed more quads like the Wolverine. If Yamaha would update it with a larger engine, 6 speed transmission or automatic etc., I would think that it would really sell. There seems to be a growing trend towards the sporty side of the utility market. The Rubicon, Grizzly, Sportsman 500 H.O. and the other 500 c.c. machines (and now the Kawasaki Prairie 650) are all getting faster and getting more suspension etc. but they are all at least 600 lbs.. I'd like to see an ATV with similar features that is more sport oriented yet and around 500 lbs., like a light version of the Polaris Scrambler 500 H.O. 4x4 but with a shaft drive, engine braking, 2 speed transmission and at least optional racks. It would still be a compromise, but it would be more fun than a full utility and could still handle a snowplow, and do some light work.
