Default Does a warn 424 cause any problems

I noticed in the instructions that they mention some seals on various models, but the Rancher's front drive shaft that is to be removed for the installation of the Warn 424, does not go directly in to either the transfer case or the front differential. So no lose of oil is a problem at either end of the Warn 424 on the Rancher install.s

Yeah, it replaced the front driveshaft. I'm a little confused to this day, but I think the reason was that the rear-end was just so chewed-up with sand, mud and all the other hellacious things that metal just loves, that with that little bit of extra torque going to the rear-end and the extra load on it as opposed to riding in 4x4 all it's life, it was just enough for the gears to say "F*** you." That's my theory anyway.

The 424 is definately not needed, IMO. It is more of a want item. When I took my original front shaft out, I spun the front tires over and was really surprised at how my drag the front axle has and how much effort it took to spin them over. Granted, installed the 424 doesn't do away with the "drag" of the front axle, it does increase the pep of the quad since the motor is no longer powering the front axle when the 424 is disconnected. Steering becomes lighter through all speeds, and the quad no longer pushes around corners while going slow which is common for a 4WD vehicles. I could see fuel economy increasing slightly since the engine doesn't have to power the front axle as well.

The one thing that made the whole thing worth while for me is the fun factor it added to my Rancher. Sliding around corners is a breeze and spinning the rear tires is effortless. WARN should get a kick back from tire companies because of this thing
