Default Honda Rancher 2002 problems

I have a Honda Rancher 2002 4x4 ES. The last two times I was riding the engine just died. After about waiting 5 minutes, I was able to start the machine again but I had to prime it using the primer button otherwise it wouldn't fire. I had a full tank of gas and didn't hit the kill switch. Once I had it running it ran great for 40 miles and then it did the same thing. This also happened on another occation and come to think of it, both times the weather was cold and rainy. Has anyone had similar problems? I'm wondering if there is a sensor or something going out? It hasn't left me stranded......yet, therefore I would like to get it fixed.

check your fuel tank vent hose. If it gets plugged, the tank wont vent and will build vacuum and not let the gas out into the carburetor. after it sits for a bit, a small amout of fuel will enter the carb and it will run again, but the same thing will happen again.

I had a simlar prob w/ a 92 250x would start & run perfect idle all day , but after running & riding for a given lenght of time just die, sometimes after 5-10 min start back up run great, die again , and feel lucky to get home. I put a new exiter coil on problem solved.
