I just bought a used 93 300ex and it has an aftermarket silencer/muffler. All i can say is that it's LOUD!!!!!!! I don't know what brand it is but it's very loud...even at idle.
All i want is a quiet exhaust but i'd hate to order another aftermarket exhaust and have it be just as loud. I guess i could spend a ton of cash at the honda dealer for a stock piece but i'd hate to go back to stock.
Any suggestions on a quiet aftermarket exhaust?
Somebody suggested the supertraps ear series of mufflers because they are supposedly quiet. Does anyone have this exhaust?
Thanks for the help
Mike

Mike300ex,
"quiet", like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder or in this case, the ears. To make the silencer quiet it must inhibit to one extent or another the flow of the exhaust, which tends to also inhibit performance. Increased exhaust flow = increased decibels. Since you aren't able to determine the make of your pipe it is impossible to tell you whether it's tunable or not. If it were a tunable silencer it's possible that you could remove some of the discs in the end of it, thereby attenuating the sound level somewhat. If you are located near a cycle accessory store you might take the quad to them & have them tell you what brand of pipe you have and whether it's a tunable one and how to tune for low end & sound before buying another system.

Hey Hotshoe, i finally picked my 300ex up today and it turns out that the pipe thats on there is a DG pipe. It says DG RCM on the side of the silencer. Looks like a race type straight through design. I don't think it's adjustable with discs....does anyone know for sure?
