Rancher 4x4 & foreman 4x4
#1
Hi, soon i will either be getting a 2001 rancher 4x4 es or a foreman 4x4 es. I can get the rancher for about $5100 and the foreman for about $5800-$5900.
I was just wondering if the foreman is worth the extra 700 bucks? I like riding through woods, and i have to go over alot of tall fallen trees and go through creeks and mud, but i also like speed, and being able to zip through open fields and trails at a decent speed (and have decent acceleration also). So would the foreman be worth the extra 700 for me?
When comparing the 2, is the rancher any quicker (by this i mean will get get to the top speed alot faster)? I realize that the foreman probally has a slightly faster top speed (probally about 54-56 compared to the rancher's 51-52), but which would win a short drag race? And how much more would the foreman's extra power help me in the woods when compared to the racher?

I have a rancher 4x4 and my friend has a forman 4x4. I would suggest getting the rancher and using the $700 to get a winch. The rancher is just as good as the forman in the mud and in the woods it is easy to keep up. they both have super low first gear and acceleration in both is near equal. If you plan on doing a lot of work i would consider the forman but for the money you can get a rancher and winch and still save some. That is just my opinion so I hope you are happy with what you get.

I don't think that anyone who's ridden both could disagree based on what you've said, you want a Rancher. The difference in the power is significant but only where brute force is required. The Rancher is agile the foreman is not and it has plenty of power. The rubicon on the other hand is agile more like the Rancher. As a matter of fact the rubi steers a lot easier than Rancher or Foreman. If you wanted a pure workhorse then you choose would be foreman.
I've got 26" outlaws on all fours and it turns them fine in the mud.

I'm having this same dilemma, but as much as I try to justify the Foreman, the Rancher is the better quad. The only thing the Foreman has on the Rancher is power. Both will reach the same top speeds. If you were going to be hauling alot of stuff or plowing snow, then the Foreman would get the nod. The Rancher has better ground clearance, a better front diff, it's more stable, it has a bigger gas tank, better ride, and better handling. This is why the Foremans have come down in price so much, and why Honda's giving you $300 to buy one. They're great machines, it's just the new designs are so much better.
