I had an '01 400ex that I installed a 440 kit on, and I wouldn't do it again. It did give it more power and make it more torqy, but IMO if you want more power it is best to trade up to a more hi-performance machine. It will be faster and more reliable.

Most times you will need to buy heavy duty head studs from the extra compression. They cost around $80 and if you dont buy them usualy the stock ones will pull and make your gaskets leak which = loss of compression. I heard you should switch to the crf cam chain too. Modding a motor will not give you any more speed. It will let you get to your top speed faster. If you want speed you mess with the sprockets. If you buy a high rev cdi you will gain 2-3 mph.

order of stuff that should be dune

pipe
filter
remove air box lid
bore kit
rev box
cam
port
carb
