Rancher choke sticking
#1
Out of warrenty '00 Rancher choke is sticking in cold weather, making starting difficult. Dealer was unable to duplicate the problem; who didn't know that?
Can water get inside the choke cable and in these low temps, freeze? To day, I could only get the choke to pull up about 3/4". The qual is stored outside, but covered.
Has anyone experienced this problem, and what did you do about it.
Thanks & Happy New Year!

If you scroll down a little you'll notice i asked the EXACT same question, but didn't get any help...I've tried to find answers about this but nobody said anything...So today i called up my dealer and they said that water must be in the cable, and the way to fix it is either replacing the cable or putting in some lithium grease...I hope that answers your question...later

This happen to me and i cleaned the choke cable and it still froze. But the problem was where the choke cable goes into the carb, just loosen the plastic fitting then pull the plunger out and carefully clean the inside where the plunger goes in"try not to force the dirt or water into the carb" then clean and lightly lube the plunger"wd40".Very simple to do.Dont worry about pulling out cable it all stays in one peace.Let me know how these instructions work for you because i am sure most rancher owners will have this problem sooner or later.Good luck

Mine is sticking too. Since I use it for plowing, I don't really want it to spend too much time at the dealer. I just pull the choke out when I shut it off. Then it's already on the next time I need it. As the machine warms up, the choke goes off. Maybe when it warms up, I'll see what I can check out without too much disassembly.

Goattrotter is right on with the sticking choke fix. Mine was sticking (freezing) too. Took it apart yesterday and small water droplets were visible in the plunger/spring area. It only took 15 minutes to unscrew the plastic fitting, wipe everything clean, lube and re-assemble. It was -12 last night and problem seems solved. This forum is a must for Honda ATV owners!

Something else that might help you get that cold natured beast started, on the rancher there is a black "primer" button mounted about 12in to the rear of the fuel-switch, give it about three presses and that quad will start right up. (You can hear the primer inject the fuel into the carb)
Hope this helps!!!!
