Default Honda TRX680 FA shifting question.

The newer Honda owners manuals no longer include 20W50 or 20W40. Now it is just 10W40 and 10W30 for three season oils, and 5W30 for colder weather and 0W30 for extreme cold weather.

What is very surprising, is the 0W30 has an arrow going from very cold temps to over 100 degrees F. Are they really suggesting that 0W30 is an all weather oil??? Not in any southwest desert summer I don't think.......

Honda now has a 0W30 HP4 (blend), and as I recall I think they also have a full synthetic???

Honda does have a fully synthetic oil now. I saw it when I was buying the Regular Honda 10w40 oil. It was over 10.00 a qt of I remember right.I didn't remember seeing anything in the manual about 20w50. All I remember seeing was 10w40 or 10w30.

It is funny, I have an year 02 250EX, who's manual has the old style Honda oil chart that has 20W50, 20W40, etc. in it. I also have a year 06 250EX with the identical engine, and it has the new style without the heavier weight oils.

The engine didn't change between 02 and 06, so I have to wonder what did change???

I'm sure they spend allot of money on research. They might have found no advantage or some disadvantages using the heavier oils.Years ago all we ever ran in cars was a straight 30w. Now its all multi viscosity. Things do change as time goes on.
